GA4

GA4 is an analytical tool which is able to track performance metrics across apps and websites. Now, a new feature has been revealed that allows segments to be saved and shared amongst all users within a property. The feature will be accessible to editors or those with higher permissions.

What is a saved segment?

A saved segment is a collection of data on a group or individual users through sessions or events on a website or app.

The saved aspect will essentially mean any recorded segments can be saved and transferred. Users will be able to create the segments and integrate them into their exploration reports, creating ease and convenience in report creation. GA4 previously required users to recreate segments for each unique report, which could be a tedious task that could lead to inconsistencies.

50 segments can be saved for standard properties; however, Google Analytics 360 properties can have up to 200 saved. Users creating an exploration report will be able to include up to 4 segments.

The features can be located in the segments section of the variables pane within the explore tab. The segment library can be found in the admin panel under the date display.

Additional features

GA4 also introduced more segment management tools, from duplicating, removing, applying or editing the segments. Enhanced permissions allow editors to make more adjustments across projects. Users will be able to access segments within a shared segment library which can be pre-built or custom.

Another feature which is available to users is the ability to create audiences by utilising saved segments.

The benefits of enhanced segment features

Enhanced segment features ensure that segments are consistent across reports, eliminating any potential discrepancies across reports. This is particularly useful as it ensures when different members are producing reports the data remains consistent.

Shared access creates ease in collaboration, with teams being able to do so more efficiently. It means there are no discrepancies as the entire team is able to access the data on segments.

The capability to create and save 10 different segments, diversifying analysis and providing the capability to cater to different audiences across campaigns.

The ability to quickly adapt segments and instantly share those changes across all users means teams can rapidly react, adapt to any changes across segment metrics.
